Some are home owners who are open to have visitors come to their private gardens and meander through at their own leisure. Other participants are businesses who invite you to browse through their displays of garden plants and décor.
Visit our tour maps page to get a description of the various gardens. On it you will also find which days and the times that each garden host is available.
We began with a small group of people who love to garden, and want to share their passion with others. Regular meetings were scheduled when interested people were invited to join us and we determined the amount of interest in Huron and Perth Counties that would allow us to develop a tour map.
In 2012, we hosted a one day tour and were encouraged by the number of people who came out on a very hot day in July to visit our gardens. We had a printed map with descriptions of the gardens for self guided touring around the county. We decided to develop a map, and invite participating gardens to determine on which days & the times, they wanted to host visitors, or if they wanted to participate only by appointment. From the amount of interest and the number of visitors it was determined to spread the tours out over the entire season.
There are criteria we ask all visitors to follow when touring gardens. First of all show respect for other peoples’ property. Do not take cuttings or seeds without permission. If you wish to bring a pet, make sure the host gardener gives permission, and then keep your pet on a leash. Visit only during the times given on the map information.
